[Chlamydia]

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It is one of the most commonly reported STIs in Japan and is particularly common among people in their teens to thirties. It often progresses without symptoms, so it can be passed on unknowingly, and left untreated it can cause infertility.

After an incubation period of one to three weeks following infection, men may notice mild pain or discomfort when passing urine and a clear or whitish discharge from the urethra. However, many men areasymptomatic, and so often spread the infection without knowing. Left untreated, it can causeepididymitis and prostatitis, inflammation of the male reproductive organs, which can lead to infertility.

In women, chlamydia often causes very mild symptoms: abnormal discharge (turning yellowish), a dull ache in the lower abdomen,、 pain during intercourse、 and irregular bleeding. Often, however, there are no symptoms at all, so the infection can be spread unknowingly. If it progresses, it can causepelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and and salpingitis, which in turn can raise the risk ofinfertility and and miscarriage.

[Gonorrhoea]

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The incubation period after infection is usually about two to seven days.

. In men, the hallmarks are severe pain or burning when passing urine and a heavy yellow or green discharge from the urethra. Left untreated, it can progress toepididymitis and prostatitis, and in some cases cause infertility.

In women, as with chlamydia, symptoms are often mild, but increased discharge、 a yellow or green discharge、 lower abdominal pain、 and pain during intercourse、 and irregular bleeding can appear. There may be no symptoms at all, so it can go unnoticed and untreated, but if it progresses the risk ofPID (pelvic inflammatory disease) andinfertility rises. Gonorrhoea can also infect the throat and rectum, causing inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and anus.

With both chlamydia and gonorrhoea, early detection and treatment matter. Left untreated and unnoticed, they can seriously affect your health, so regular testing is recommended.
